Everest Cho La Pass Trek Route

Once we arrive at Namche Bazaar, we head towards Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and Kala Patthar. We come a bit backward from Lobuche to Zonglaform. We arrive at Gokyo surpassing Cho La Pass. We climb Gokyo Ri. Spending some time there we come back to Namche via Dole. Climbing Everest does not fall under this trip, but the spectacular view of Everest is purely seen from various angles. The picture-perfect view of Everest from different angles makes every trekker feel as if s/he is in heaven.

Best Time To Trek Gokyo Chola Pass Trek

The best time to trek Everest base camp with Gokyo Cho La Pass Trek is from late May to mid-September. September through November, as well as February through May. This month the weather is good with good visibility. The Base Camp temperatures reach about -6°C during these periods. 01Day

Early in the morning you head towards airport. The flight scheduled at 6:30 am will take you to Lukla. The air distance to reach Lukla from Kathmandu is of 45 mintutes. You will have a breakfast at Lukla and walk towards Phakding. It is a 4 hours walk to Phakding (2,610 m). In the afternoon, we will move towards Phakding crossing Dudh Koshi where we will spend our night in a lodge. 

02Day

The trek is of about 7 hours to reach Namche Bazaar (3,440m). It is a famous town of Solukhumbu district. The ending three hours of this trek is tough. The gorgeous beauty of nature will make you forget all your pain in the end. Overnight in Namche.

03Day

Today is a day to have a rest in order to adjust your body temperature with the increasing altitude. But we will not stay quiet and go for a hiking. We will explore Khumjung village and come back to our place. Overnight in Namche.

04Day

Today we will reach Tengboche (3,860 m). It is six to seven hours trek. It is a perfect destination to have a glance of Ama Dablam peak and Thamserku in this Himalayan region. Overnight in Tengboche.

05Day

Today we move towards Dingboche (4,250m) . It is at a walking distance of around seven hours from Tengboche. This place is located at an higher altitude. Walking in this area might be omehow difficult. Overnight in Dingboche.

06Day

The second acclimatization day has come. Today we will roam around Dingboche. But during daytime we will plan a short trip to Chhukung valley for refreshment. Acclimatization is very important to rejunivate. More you climb towards high altitude more the trek seems tough.

07Day

Today we come to Lobuche (4950m). Walking for around seven hours takes us to Lobuche. The lavishing beauty of Mt. Pumori, Mt. Ama Adablam is easily seen from here. Overnight in Lobuche.

08Day

Today we head towards Gorak Shep (5,160 m) from Lobuche. The trek is very short of about three hours. You will not feel so exhausted today. Resting for couple of hours we march towards Everest Base Camp in the dusk to get the glorifying sunset view.

09Day

Waking up early in the morning we trek to Kalapatthar. The trail envelops the distance of five hours. Kalapatthar lies at an altitude of 5545 m above sea level. Kalapatthar is famous as viewpoint to gaze the beauty of Mt. Everest and various other Himalayan range. If you are fortunate enough then you will have an outstanding view of sunrise, which you cannot observe in any other part of the world. You can capture all these moments in your camera. Now we get back to Gorak Shep for lunch. After some time we come to Lobuche.

10Day

Covering the walking distance of five to six hours we arrive at Zongla (4,740m). Now we cross Chola-La Pass. The only place to spend the night is here at Zongla. You can enjoy the local tea here.

11Day

We will walk to Chola-La pass (5,483m) and then descend to Thanga (4,500 m). This place is fully covered with snow so you gave to be little careful while passing the track. But during the moderate season the site is absolutely wonderful. You will feel very cold here so no sooner the sun sets you head towards in search of a tea house.

12Day

Now we move towards Gokyo (4,790m). The walk is comprised of only 4-5 hours distance. We arrive at Gokyo and have our lunch. You can enjoy Gokyo valley. Overnight in Gokyo.

13Day

We climb uphill towards Gokyo Ri (5,483m). This trek might be one of the most challenging trips of your life. The panoramic view of upper Gokyo Lake, Ngozumpa Glacier and whole Khumbu Himalayas such as Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu (8,481m), Cho-Oyu (8,153m) and Gychung Kang (7,922) looks incredible. Late in the noon we go back to the camp.

14Day

Today we descend towards Dole from Gokyo. The uphill and downhill track mesmerizes you to the core of your heart. The walk is extremely beautiful and you can even capture this moment in your camera. Overnight in Dole.

15Day

The trip from Dole to Namche Bazaar is for around six hours. You encounter Khumjung village in the middle of your walk. The view of Ama Dablam fascinates you quite well. Following the trail we get to Namche Bazaar. Overnight in Namche.

16Day

You are about to conclude your trekking. On day 16 you trek down towards Phakding. The walking distance from Namche Bazaar to Phakding is about five hours. You will spend a night in Phakding trying some local juice in a lodge for refreshment. 

17Day

The last day tour in Everest Region arrives. You will get back to Lukla. After having a lunch you will explore local Sherpa village here. You can enjoy talking to them and know their culture and take it back as a memory.

18Day

You wake up early in the morning to catch a flight that takes you to Kathmandu. It is a 45 minutes flight. On the way you can rememorize all the beautiful moment of your trip which will even make you emotional. You will be received by your representative and he will take you to hotel. But this is not the end. It is a beginning of another beautiful trip which you will plan it yourself later because you cannot resist it.

Everest Cho La Pass trek permit requirements 

For the Everest Cho La Pass trek, you will need the Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality entrance permit. The Sagarmatha National Park permit costs Rs. 3000 per person. Likewise, the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality entrance permit costs Rs. 2,000 per person.

What is the best time to do the Everest Cho La Pass trek 18 days?

The best time to do the Everest Cho La Pass trekking is pre-monsoon and post-monsoon, which means spring and autumn seasons. Spring (March, April, and May) and autumn (September, October, and November) have a lovely climate and stable weather, which is needed for a smooth trek.

Many travelers from around the world explore the beauty of the Khumbu region in these two seasons, so the trails are crowded, especially the mainstream EBC trail. Everest Cho La Pass Trek: difficulty

The Everest Cho La Pass trek is a very challenging trek in the Khumbu region. This trek crosses a 5,000-meter mountain pass, which is quite difficult to traverse. The trekkers spend multiple days above 4,000 meters and navigate mountains and glaciers. The trekking route has mixed terrain with many offbeat, steep sections.

While crossing the Cho La pass, you will also walk on the icy and snowy paths with loose rocks, which is quite tricky. Many days of uphill walking and increasing altitude may tire you sooner than you expect. The average daily walking hours is 6, but on days you will cross the mountains, you may have to walk for 8 to 10 hours.

Altitude sickness

The Everest Cho La pass trek starts from Lukla, situated at 2,840 meters (9,317 ft). From here, the trail gradually ascends and takes you above 5,000 meters six times. Kala Patthar is the highest point at 5,545 meters (1,192 ft). This gain in altitude may trigger altitude sickness in you, so you have to acclimatize as you trek.

Following our Everest Cho La Pass trek itinerary, you will have ample time to rest and recover. Our itinerary has enough acclimatization days. To avoid altitude sickness, you should keep yourself hydrated and also maintain your pace. Get plenty of sleep and have nutritious food. You have to maintain your energy as well.

Accommodation and meals during the Everest Cho La Pass trekking

The accommodation during the Everest Gokyo Lake trek is basic. In Kathmandu, you will spend three nights in a tourist-standard hotel. During the trek, you will spend 14 nights in the lodges along the trail.

In villages like Lukla, Phakding, and Namche Bazaar, you will get a room with a private washroom. Other villages mostly have common washrooms. Squat toilets are much more common as the elevation increases.

We will book you the best lodges. Services like hot showers, charging, and WiFi will cost you a few extra bucks everywhere, so do budget some money and carry Nepali cash for these personal expenses. Locals do not accept cards or foreign currency.

Rooms will be twin-shared in the lodges. A high-quality sleeping bag is highly recommended. Dining is a common area where you can mingle with other trekkers and have food. You will get three meals during the trek. All the food will be cooked by the lodges.

The menu includes Nepali, Tibetan, Western, and Indian food options. Dal bhat, thukpa, and momos are the most common dishes and most loved by trekkers. Apart from that, you will also get Sherpa stew, rice and curries, porridge, noodles, pizza, burgers, pasta, soup, pancakes, etc.

Each day you will be walking less than 8-10 Kilometers, the high your trek, your speed of walking will get slower. Normally, the trek to EBC is slower because of the high altitude and possibility of AMS; you will need to adjust to the new altitudes. It is suggested to have some spare days in Kathmandu and start the trek right after the day of your arrival because of flight cancellations due to unfavorable weather conditions.

It is wise to follow a 12-Day standard EBC Trekking itinerary (To and From Lukla) to avoid AMS and have a smooth trekking experience.

The shortest itinerary for Everest is Everest base camp for 12 days if you are willing to trek during the whole trip. But that’s not what you think, you can use a helicopter flight too. You can have a close-eye view of the region and step foot in the base camp in just 4 hours of flight by helicopter. You can also trek along to Gorakshep and catch the helicopter flight from Gorakshep and get peregrine sight and return back directly to Lukla (or Kathmandu).

If summiting is the main concern, then the months of March to May and Mid of September to November would be nice, but we can expect pleasant weather until the end of December due to global warming. It is then that the weather is sunny and clear with dry hiking paths.

On the other hand, if greenery and lush flora are what excites you, monsoon, or the months of June, July and August is your time. Be warned though that the trails are slippery with sludge and most dangerously, infested with leeches.

The pure white beauty of a snowy mountain mesmerizes one and all. But this magnificence comes at a heavy cost. Trekking to the Everest Base Camp in a harsh winter with sub-zero temperatures and a high possibility of blizzards is an extremely difficult task. Trekkers going to Everest Base Camp need two documents for the trip. The first is the TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card and the other is the permit for the Everest region. Both are issued by the Government with regards to Trekking Agencies.

Pack for the trek depending on which month or season you are opting for. Winter treks will demand heavy woolens, gloves, down jacket, wind and rain protectors, snow hiking boots, and other kinds of Winter trekking gear.

Summer/Spring will need a range of clothes like light woolens, heavy woolens, woolen caps/ beanies, hiking tops/t-shirts, hiking shorts/leggings, and a sunhat to shield yourself from the sun.

Yes, you can cancel the trip that you have booked once but there are certain conditions. Some are mentioned below:

If you cancel the trip in 60 days remaining for the trip, your full amount will be refunded.

If you cancel the trip in the 30 days remaining for the trip, 30% of the full amount will the refunded

But if you cancel at the interval of 1 week or less, your invested money will not be refunded at all.

The guide shows you the way whereas the porter carries your heavy lodges. Hiring both may cost you higher. So, it is better to hire a guide cum porter. Because with him/her you can enjoy the trek efficiently and your cost will also be minimal. S/he will show you the path as well as aid you in carrying your heavy stuff.

Everest base camp trekking can be done both individually and in a group. For a group trek, you first need to make a group. You can make your own group from your country involving your friends, family, relatives and other known people, and inform us about that so that we will be able to give you services according to that. But if you cannot form a whole group then, you can simply contact us and we will place you in a group of others.

Regulus Nepal would say that travel insurance is an absolute necessity when trekking to Everest Base Camp. This is the world’s highest mountain in question so better be prepared for any kind of emergency like trekking accidents, natural calamities, or any other type of medical emergency that may require you to be transported to cities or get treated by hospitals.

The major health issue that can occur is altitude sickness. To avoid this problem, you have to drink lots of water. You should carry an effective medicine called Diamox and have it immediately after the attack. We will provide guides and helpers who are experienced and trained to take different kinds of precautions and safety measures in this kind of situation. If your condition becomes severe, you will be taken 300m downward from your current position. From there, you can trek again in substitute time according to the rate of your body recovery.

While you are trekking at a high altitude your body should be Hydrated and Energetic. Normally trekkers need to drink 3-4 Liters of water in a day depending on their body. drinking enough water can reduce the risk of High altitude sickness. Some locals drink water directly from the tap, but we don't recommend trekkers to drink water directly from a stream or tap you can purify tap water by using purification tablets or life straws. Travelers can buy mineral water in the bottle from trekking lodges, safe drinking water you can reveal it from Tea House or you can buy boiled water.

Kathmandu Lukla flight trekkers are allowed to carry 10 kg bags whereas the weight of 5 kg a handbag. In case, of extra weight trekkers have to pay the extra payment for airlines. Moreover, Porters carry maximum carriers of weight about 20 kg for 2 trekkers, so we suggest to our clients to pack necessary items only, The unnecessary items can leave in Kathmandu Hotel or Office

There is a good banking system in Nepal along with some branches of international banks in Kathmandu and major cities. The unit of the Nepalese currency is calculated in Rupee. In Kathmandu, trekkers can easily find authorized money exchange counters & agents. Although in high altitude trek then there is no banking & money exchange system are available. ATM is available only in Namche bank are available. But above Namche, there are no banks or ATMs for money exchange.

Most of the trekking lodges provide hot showers but a few lodges do laundry services mainly at a lower altitude
