Bardia National Park
Bardiya National Park is the largest national park in the lowland Terai covering an area of 968 sq. km. established in the year 1988 A.D. About 70% of the park is covered with forest, with the balance a mixture of grassland, savannah, and riverine forest. The wide range of vegetation types in forest and grassland provides excellent habitat for 642 faunal species.The Bardiya National Park is home to at least 53 mammals including the greater one-horned rhinoceros, Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, barasingha, and Gangetic dolphin.
An elephant ride provides a different view of the park as one can go off the main trail, Morning and late afternoon is the ideal time to go on a ride. Karnali river is a suitable home for Gangetic dolphins. Babai valley is a majestic place to visit where flagship Rhino, tiger, and elephant can be cited in the wilderness site.
How to get Bardia National Park
You can take a bus or take the flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj. From Nepalgunj, bus services are available to the park HQ at Thakurdwara during the dry season.
In our Bardia Jungle Safari tour package, we will take an hour's flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, upon arrival to Nepalgunj join the drive from Nepalgunj to the resort. But if you want to travel to Bardia National Park by road, you have to hire a private vehicle and drive to the route of Dhangadi, Mahendranagar, or Karnali. By road, it takes approx 16 hours to reach the Bardia National Park from Kathmandu, 12 hours from Pokhara, and 9 hours from Chitwan.
